I have been meaning to write a post about Charles and Ray Eames for a very long time, but I could never find enough time to do it. I admire them so much, my favorite two people in the design world, nobody could ever take their place. Charles and Ray met each other in Cranbrook Academy while Charles, together with Eero Saarinen was preparing designs for Museum Of Modern Art's "Organic Furniture Competition."
They got married in 1941, and worked together on furniture design. Both of them had day jobs, but in the night they conducted experiments with plywood at their apartment. In 1949 they designed and built their own home in Pacific Palisades, California. Due to the innovative design and use of the materials, this house is considered to be one of the most important residences in the world. After plywood, Charles and Ray experimented with others materials, like fiberglass, plastic and aluminum. They designed timeless furniture that became icons for product design.
For me every piece of vintage furniture carries the history and the significance that none of the contemporary ones carry. Here is a great selection of vintage furniture, hope you will enjoy.
Photographs by Bernard Voïta. Its about placing objects in a space, so that it forms strictly geometric shapes from only one viewpoint. It reminds me of Velice Varini and Georges Rousse but in this case its about physical objects. Beautiful!
Whatever you are wearing, these kind of accessories can always make you special. I adore these Nada Sawaya clutches. Oh how long my spring wishlist is..
